Double-crested Cormorant (Phalacrocorax auritus)

Double-crested Cormorant with Nuptial Crests
The Double-crested Cormorant are returning to our area and are starting to display their breeding plumage.  Nuptial crests, which gives the species its name, are either white, black or mixture of the two.  This Cormorant, which was sitting on a post near the Marina in Plymouth harbor demonstrated its crests (mainly black with a touch of white) well due to the the wind, which was blowing.
