Year of the Otter

The International Otter Survival Fund (IOSF) http://www.otter.org/Public/Default.aspx  has declared 2016 to be the Year of the Otter.  The IOSF is a nonprofit agency located in Scotland dedicated to bringing awareness about otters worldwide.  The reason for this is exploitation for commercial gain and in some locations worldwide hunted almost to extinction.

Special Appeal - IOSF is also launching their Special Appeal for 2016 – they want to raise £5,000 for each species of otter – a total of £65,000.

You can donate on their Buzzbnk.org crowdfunding page https://buzzbnk.org/otters.

Here in the states, we have two species of otters.  The river otter, which is not threatened in the sea otter, which is in a vulnerable state.  I have been lucky at least to capture photographs of river otters but have never seen a sea otter. Hopefully, that will get corrected in the future.
